Mastery of the senses precedes mastery of others
तस्मादरि-षड्-वर्ग-त्यागेनैन्द्रिय-जयं कुर्वीत। वृद्ध-सम्योगेन प्रज्ञाम्। चारेण चक्षुः। उत्थानेन योग-क्षेम-साधनम्। कार्य-अनुशासनेन स्वधर्म-स्थापनम्। विनयं विद्या-उपदेशेन। लोक-प्रियत्वं अर्थ-सम्योगेन वृत्तिं ।। ०१.७.०१ ।। एवं वश्य-इन्द्रियः पर-स्त्री-द्रव्य-हिंसाश्च वर्जयेत्। स्वप्नं लौल्यं अनृतं उद्धत-वेषत्वं अनर्थ्य-सम्योगं अधर्म-सम्युक्तं अनर्थ-सम्युक्तं च व्यवहारं ।। ०१.७.०२ ।। धर्म-अर्थ-अविरोधेन कामं सेवेत। न निह्सुखः स्यात् ।। ०१.७.०३ ।। समं वा त्रिवर्गं अन्योन्य-अनुबद्धं ।। ०१.७.०४ ।। एको ह्यत्यासेवितो धर्म-अर्थ-कामानां आत्मानं इतरौ च पीडयति ।। ०१.७.०५ ।। अर्थएव प्रधानैति कौटिल्यः ।। ०१.७.०६ ।। अर्थ-मूलौ हि धर्म-कामाविति ।। ०१.७.०७ ।। मर्यादां स्थापयेदाचार्यानमात्यान्वा। यएनं अपाय स्थानेभ्यो वारयेयुः। छाया-नालिका-प्रतोदेन वा रहसि प्रमाद्यन्तं अभितुदेयुः ।। ०१.७.०८ ।। सहाय-साध्यं राजत्वं चक्रं एकं न वर्तते ।। ०१.७.०९अ ब ।। कुर्वीत सचिवांस्तस्मात्तेषां च शृणुयान्मतं ।। ०१.७.०९च्द् ।।
