Chapter 1 · Verse 14
On Discernment and Company
वरयेत्कुलजां प्राज्ञो विरूपामपि कन्यकाम् । रूपशीलां न नीचस्य विवाहः सदृशे कुले ॥
varayetkulajāṃ prājño virūpāmapi kanyakām | rūpaśīlāṃ na nīcasya vivāhaḥ sadṛśe kule ||

“A wise man marries a girl from a good family even if she is plain; he does not marry a low born girl, however beautiful. Marriage is between equals.”
In Modern Life
Read 'good family' as alignment of values, education, expectations, and worldview. Not caste or wealth. Marriages between people with very different operating systems strain under pressure. Match the foundations; the surface attracts but does not sustain.
