Acceptance
By downloading or using Chanakyaverse you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
License
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the app on devices you own. The Chanakyaverse brand, app design, software, and any original editorial commentary written by us are our property. The Sanskrit source texts of Chanakya Niti and Kautilya's Arthashastra are in the public domain and are not owned by anyone. See the next section.
Content sources & copyright
Chanakyaverse presents teachings that are part of India's ancient philosophical heritage and are entirely in the public domain:
- Chanakya Niti (Sanskrit text): sourced from the canonical edition published on sanskritdocuments.org, which is unrestricted public-domain Sanskrit literature.
- Arthashastra (English translation):based on R. Shamasastry's 1915 English translation, which entered the public domain decades ago under both Indian and international copyright law (works published before 1928 are public-domain in the US; the author died in 1944 and 60-year post-mortem term has long passed in India).
- Hindi translations and modern applications: these are written editorially by the Chanakyaverse team. They are original work; no copyrighted modern translations (e.g. from works published by Radhakrishnan Pillai, Diamond Pocket Books, Jaico, or other contemporary publishers) are used or paraphrased.
- Devanagari typography: rendered using Tiro Devanagari Sanskrit, an Open Font License typeface.
If you believe any specific verse or commentary in the app inadvertently infringes a copyright you hold, contact us at [email protected] with the verse ID and the original source; we will review and remove on a good-faith basis.
Religious & political neutrality
Chanakyaverse is a secular, non-political, educational product. The teachings of Chanakya are part of India's shared cultural and philosophical heritage and are presented here for their wisdom value, not as religious doctrine or political advocacy.
- We do not endorse any religion, sect, political party, or ideology.
- We do not modify, censor, or curate Chanakya's teachings to favour any contemporary political narrative.
- Where a verse touches on statecraft, gender, caste, or social structure as understood in the 4th century BCE, we present the original meaning faithfully and add a modern reading that frames it for contemporary life. Without erasing or rewriting the original.
- Editorial choices about which verses to feature daily are made on relevance and reading flow, not on any religious or political basis.
Our purpose is user-friendly access to a body of ancient wisdom that is otherwise locked away in dense scholarly editions. Users of any faith, no faith, or any political persuasion are welcome.
Subscriptions
Chanakyaverse is currently free to download and use, supported by family-safe ads. If we introduce an optional paid tier in the future, any subscription would auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period.
