On Discernment and Company
आपदर्थे धनं रक्षेच्छ्रीमतां कुत आपदः । कदाचिच्चलते लक्ष्मीः सञ्चितोऽपि विनश्यति ॥
āpadarthe dhanaṃ rakṣecchrīmatāṃ kuta āpadaḥ | kadāciccalate lakṣmīḥ sañcito'pi vinaśyati ||

“Save wealth against calamity. For the wealthy, what calamity? Yet sometimes Lakshmi leaves; even what is accumulated can perish.”
In Modern Life
The rich think calamity is for other people. Until it isn't. 2008 humbled banks. 2020 humbled airlines. Even concentrated wealth evaporates. Save not because you're afraid, but because Lakshmi (fortune) is fickle. The 6 12 month runway is not paranoia; it is dignity.
